Scripture: Revelation 21:1–5 (NIV)
“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’”
Welcome Back
Welcome back to the Biblical Threads Devotional Series, where each week we trace one of Scripture’s great themes and follow it until it leads us to Jesus. Today we come to one of the most precious and steadying threads in all of God’s story—the Thread of Hope.
The Thread of Hope — God’s Promised Future
Hope is not wishful thinking in Scripture; it is certainty anchored in the character of God. Hope is the assurance that the God who has redeemed, sustained, and carried His people through every generation will also bring history to its glorious completion.
From the earliest pages of the Bible, God’s people have lived with forward-facing expectations:
- Adam and Eve were given a promise that the Seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head.
- Abraham was told to look up at a sky full of stars—his future was secure because God had spoken it.
- Israel lived in expectation of a Messiah who would bring righteousness, justice, and peace.
- The prophets pointed toward a day when God would dwell with His people again.
All of Scripture leans toward the future—toward the moment God will set all things right.
But Revelation 21 brings that hope into brilliant clarity.
John sees a new heaven and a new earth, untouched by corruption.
He hears a voice announcing a reality humanity has longed for since Eden:
“Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them.”
This is the restoration of what was lost.
This is the homecoming the whole story has been moving toward.
And then we hear the tender promise:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
Not just the end of sorrow, but the personal compassion of God Himself touching every wound with healing finality.
Finally, Jesus speaks the words that ground all Christian hope:
“I am making everything new.”
Not some things.
Not a few things.
Everything.
This is the future secured by the cross, sealed by the resurrection, and guaranteed by the faithfulness of God.
And because this future is certain, you can live today with courage, endurance, and joy.
The Thread of Hope lifts our eyes from the temporary and fixes them on the eternal—on the day when God Himself finishes the story with beauty, justice, and glory.
Reflect
- Where does your heart need renewed hope today?
- What part of God’s future promise most encourages you?
- How might living with a “Revelation 21 perspective” change the way you see your present circumstances?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for the hope You have given us—a future that is secure because You have spoken it. Help me lift my eyes from what is temporary and fix them on what is eternal. Anchor my heart in the promise that You are making all things new. Strengthen my faith, steady my steps, and fill me with the joy that comes from knowing the best is yet to come because You are the God who keeps every promise.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
