Scripture focus – Matthew 6:9–13 (NIV)
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’”
When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He didn’t begin with their needs, sorrows, or anxieties. He began with a Kingdom—a reality bigger, stronger, and more eternal than anything they could see.
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done” is more than a prayer.
It is a surrender, a reorientation of the heart, a reshaping of our desires to align with God’s reign.
Throughout Scripture, the Thread of the Kingdom weaves consistently:
- In Eden, God walked with His people under His peaceful rule.
- In Israel, God established a nation meant to display His righteousness.
- Through the prophets, God promised a coming King who would restore justice and joy.
- And in Jesus, the Kingdom stepped into the world—not with armies or thrones, but with mercy, healing, and truth.
Jesus is the King who reigns not by force but by love, not by oppression but by restoration. And His Kingdom continues to break into our world—one surrendered life at a time.
“Your Kingdom Come“

When we pray “Your kingdom come,” we’re inviting God to reign:
- in our decisions,
- in our relationships,
- in our fears,
- in our habits,
- and in the corners of our souls where His light has not yet reached.
The Kingdom thread reminds us that faith is not passive. It is participation—choosing God’s will over our own because His ways are always good, always holy, always leading to life.
Where do you sense God inviting you to surrender your will to His? How might you experience His peace as you pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done” in this area?
Closing Prayer
Father, I surrender my ways, my plans, and my desires to You. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in my life today. Reign in my heart with wisdom, peace, and clarity. Align my steps with Your purposes. Teach me to trust the goodness of Your rule and to walk faithfully under Your loving authority. In Jesus’ name, amen.
